Kim Hieora Stages Comeback After School Bullying Allegations: Redemption or Risk?
Actress Kim Hieora, who faced a wave of backlash in 2023 over allegations of school bullying, is officially making her comeback.
On April 24, EMK Musical Company unveiled the first cast profile photos for the upcoming production of “Frida,” revealing Kim as one of the three actresses set to play the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
This marks Kim Hieora’s first public project since she temporarily halted all activities following the controversy last year. In April 2024, it was announced that the matter had been settled amicably between the involved parties, signaling a closure to the issue and clearing the path for her return.

“Frida” is a show-style musical that captures the final years of Frida Kahlo, exploring her artistic spirit and passion for life even as she endured relentless physical and emotional pain. Presented in a unique frame narrative, the musical celebrates resilience, creativity, and healing.
The first set of cast photos showcases a modern reinterpretation of Frida Kahlo’s ethos. Kim Hieora joins Kim So-hyang and Kim Ji-woo in sharing the titular role. Other notable cast members include Jeon Su-mi, Jang Eun-ah, and Aiki, who play Refleha, a character based on Kahlo’s lover and alter ego, Diego Rivera.
Kim’s return has sparked mixed reactions online, with some welcoming her back and others still divided over the past controversy. Nevertheless, “Frida” is expected to be a major summer production, both for its artistic ambition and the public attention around Kim’s casting.
The musical will run from June 17 to September 7 at the NOL Uniplex Theater 1 in Seoul.
